January 2010

Happy New 2010 to all
Getting back into the routine of work, after all the Christmas festivities and indulgences has not been easy this year with all the snow and ice. However, we are proud to say we have only had to close one day and that was because the buses stopped running early in the morning and staff and learners would have struggled to get into our premises and then home again. I would like to say a very big thank you to all staff and students who, despite the dreadful weather conditions, have continued to battle their way in. KMP is very proud of you.
Our IMAGE Factory and Support Fund programmes continue to do well with the majority of our post-16 learners, taking and passing their ASDAN Literacy and Numeracy at levels one and two. Moreover, the majority of learners will achieve an Expressive Arts Award and are working towards Wider Key Skills. Well done to you all (you know who you are). In addition, we have had many positive progressions, some of which have progressed onto Media courses at Sheffield College to maintain their media studies. Before Christmas, we had our Future:proof contract increased by another twelve places and, as at the beginning of January, there are still a few places available.
Our VSP contract is currently full with there being a waiting list of learners wanting to join our provision. We have therefore, been asked by the Vocational Skills Programme, Sheffield City Council, if we will increase our contract and take on more learners, this increase will take effect from Monday 18 January 2010. Many of our pre-16 learners are on track to take their ASDAN Literacy and Numeracy qualifications later in the year, however one learner has already passed both subjects gaining a level 1 – well done Kieran.
We are in the process of implementing a new programme delivering music as the main theme and hope to be able to begin this new contract within the next couple of months. Further details will be available on this forum.
Our FREE UK Online programme delivering Computer/Internet Basic Skills for adults still has places available, please contact the office for further details.
We are currently advertising for Trustees, Volunteer Support Workers and Members to join us. For further details on these posts, please contact the office and speak with either Ross or myself.
