July 2009

edited by RossMerryweather on Fri 10th Jul 3pm

We are fast approaching the end of the academic year, having already said goodbye to our Y11’s on the Vocational Skills Programme.

This academic year we have given out 25 certificates in ASDAN Literacy Level 1/Level 2 and Numeracy Level1/Level 2 and, having been successfully externally moderated, 2 ASDAN CoPE and 2 ASDAN AoPE to our pre-16’s. Massive congratulations to all these learners who regularly attended and achieved these qualifications – we, at KMP, are very proud of you and wish you all the best in your future careers.

Our post 16 learners are attending well on our Future:proof and Support Fund courses. The majority of our learners continue to progress onto the e2e course at SHIFT, but we have had some learners progress to NACRO also. Eight of these learners have recently achieved their Expressive Arts Awards and 5 have achieved qualifications in Lit/Num Levels 1 and 2 with a further 3 learners due to take Literacy and Numeracy Level 1 in the next couple of weeks.

We are hoping to organise an outside activity with Endeavour in August, for our Support Fund learners. This will be something like Abseiling or climbing and all learners are welcome to join us on this trip. We obviously hope for some decent weather in August. Further details will be distributed when available.

We recently found out we had been successful to run as an UK online centre working as part of a consortium with Heeley Development Trust, Sharrow Community Forum and Hadfield Institute. This means that from September 09, we will be running courses for adults who require basic computer skills. This project is about empowering older adults and enabling them to fulfil their potential and become confident in the world of ICT. Anyone interested in this course should contact us and speak to either Ross or Heather.

Finally, as always KMP staff and trustees continue to work hard at keeping our organisation innovative and dynamic but welcome any suggestions on how we can improve our service to our customers.
