March 2009

Happy Spring to all our learners, customers and funders. The daffodils are starting to raise their heads rather timidly from their beds and it’s to be hoped it warms up soon and stops snowing so that they can show off properly! We had to close one complete day and two afternoons during that particularly arctic week and hope that by having a harsh winter means we get to have a decent summer for a change!
We have recently said goodbye to our first group of Future:proof learners with the majority of them progressing onto the E2E programme at SHIFT. We wish them all the best and hope they continue to enjoy their studies in media.
We are looking at taking our current post-16 learners on a trip to the newly reopened Barnsley Civic which ‘charts the history and development of album sleeve design from its inception by Alexander Steinweiss, through Blue Note and Sgt. Pepper to day’s contemporary multi format designs’. We will also be implementing a couple of trips with our neighbour Endeavour when it starts to warm up so our learners can experience some outdoor pursuits.
Our VSP programme continues to run at full capacity with learners regularly attending and enjoying the course. We have registered our learners with ASDAN to take their Literacy and Numeracy tests on the 24 March and wish them all lots of luck with these.
Our Lead Tutor has recently attended an ASDAN Wider Key Skills workshop and we will be offering this as an extra qualification for our learners.
From 1 April 09, we are implementing classes for Year 9’s who are struggling at school, for whatever reason. These classes will run on Wednesdays and Fridays (please see our flyer). If schools are interested in finding out more, please contact us for further details. We have already received quite a bit of interest in this provision.
As always KMP staff and trustees continue to work hard at keeping our organisation innovative and dynamic but welcome any suggestions on how we can improve our service to our customers.
